The Art of Abhyanga (Self-Massage) Unveiled
A warm hello to all my health enthusiasts,
In the sacred tapestry of Ayurveda, few practices rival the simplicity and profound impact of Abhyanga, the art of self-massage.
What Ayurveda says about Abhyanga - Oil Self Massage:
"Snehoanilam hanti mrudu Karoti Deham
Malanam Vinihanti Sangam"
Meaning - Sneha or the Oil applied in the process of Abhyanga or the Self Massage pacifies Vata, brings softness in body parts, Mala accumulated, stagnated in body parts and gets loosened up.
Today, let's embark on a journey through the steps of Abhyanga and uncover its incredible benefits for both short-term rejuvenation and long-term well-being.
The 8 Steps of Abhyanga Process:
Step 1: Choose the Right Oil:
↳ Select warm, nourishing oils such as sesame, coconut, or almond. These oils penetrate the skin, providing deep nourishment.
↳ In the short term, your skin will thank you for the hydration, while the long-term benefits include improved skin elasticity and overall vitality.
Step 2: Warm the Oil:
↳ Gently warm the chosen oil to a comfortable temperature. The warmth enhances absorption, relaxing muscles and calming the nervous system.
↳ Short-term blissful relaxation meets long-term stress reduction with this simple step.
Step 3: Begin with the Scalp:
↳ Pour a small amount of oil on your fingertips and massage your scalp in circular motions.
↳ In the short term, this relieves tension and promotes mental clarity. Over the long term, it supports healthy hair and balances the nervous system.
Step 4: Move to the Face:
↳ Massage your face, paying attention to areas with tension.
↳ Short-term benefits include a radiant complexion and reduced facial tension. Over time, this practice may contribute to the prevention of fine lines and wrinkles.
Step 5: Don't Forget the Ears:
↳ Give your ears a gentle massage, promoting relaxation.
↳ In the long term, this can help maintain ear health and balance.
Step 6: Abhyanga for the Body:
↳ Apply oil generously to your body, using long strokes on limbs and circular motions on joints.
↳ Short-term perks involve supple, glowing skin, while the long-term benefits span from improved circulation to enhanced joint flexibility.
Step 7: Spend Time on Your Feet:
↳ Massage your feet, focusing on the soles and between toes.
↳ In the short term, this soothes tired feet. Over the long term, it contributes to overall grounding and balance.
Step 8: Allow the Oil to Penetrate:
↳ After your massage, allow the oil to penetrate your skin for at least 45 minutes (1 muhurtha kaalam) before showering.
↳ This ensures optimal absorption and nourishment.
Short-Term Bliss, Long-Term Well-being:
Abhyanga is not just a massage; it's a ritual that harmonizes mind, body, and spirit.
Experience the short-term bliss of relaxation and glowing skin, while sowing the seeds for long-term well-being, including improved circulation, enhanced skin health, and a balanced nervous system.
As you embrace the transformative power of Abhyanga, may your journey to holistic wellness be as radiant as your rejuvenated skin.
Wishing you a warm & blissful life!
