Ayurvedic Secrets of the Spleen — Your Body’s True Immunity Engine
Dear Readers,
Welcome to the 167th edition of our Ayurvedic Wellness Newsletter!
Today, we continue our Internal Organ Series with a powerhouse that modern medicine often overlooks—but Ayurveda has always emphasized:
The Spleen (Pleeha)
The guardian of your Rasa, Rakta, and immunity.
In Ayurveda, the spleen is not “just another organ.” It is the storehouse of vitality, the filter of life, and the controller of healthy blood formation. When Pleeha functions well, you feel energetic, light, strong, and resistant to infections. When it is weak… the entire system collapses silently.
Let’s uncover the ancient secrets of this extraordinary organ.
The Spleen in Ayurveda — Seat of Strength, Immunity & Clean Blood
According to classical Ayurvedic texts:
Pleeha is responsible for:
• Maintaining pure, well-formed blood (Rakta)
• Supporting digestion by participating in Agni’s transformation
• Keeping lymphatic flow smooth
• Protecting the body from infections
• Preventing fatigue, swelling, indigestion, and chronic fevers
A healthy spleen = strong immunity, clean blood, better digestion, and stable energy.
A weak spleen = repeated infections, tiredness, heaviness, low appetite, and swelling.
Signs Your Spleen Is Weak (Pleeha Dushti)
Ayurveda lists several symptoms that strongly indicate spleen imbalance:
• Low appetite or discomfort after eating
• Gas, bloating, heaviness
• Puffy eyes, swelling in feet or abdomen
• Low immunity, frequent colds or infections
• Dullness, fatigue, brain fog
• Weak digestion or slow metabolism
• Unexplained weight gain
• Allergies or skin issues
If these symptoms sound familiar, your Pleeha may be signaling for help.
Why the Spleen Weakens — Ayurvedic Insights
Common causes include:
• Eating heavy meals at night
• Excessive cold food and drinks
• Repeated infections without proper recovery
• Excessive stress and overthinking (affects Rasa dhatu)
• Low Agni or irregular eating patterns
• Chronic consumption of packaged, processed foods
Ayurveda emphasizes that the spleen collapses when Agni collapses.

It strengthens Agni, boosts spleen circulation, and improves immunity naturally.
Dr. Vardhan Says
Your spleen is your silent protector.
You may not feel it beating like a heart or breathing like lungs, but it works behind the scenes—filtering blood, empowering immunity, and maintaining vitality.
Treat it well with warm food, good digestion, and a peaceful mind.
Your immunity depends more on your spleen than you think.
Final Thoughts
The spleen is one of Ayurveda’s most respected organs.
If nourished properly, it keeps you strong, youthful, and disease-free.
Make today the day you begin supporting your Pleeha with mindful food, herbs, and lifestyle.
With health and balance,
