The Heart of Healing – Ayurvedic Wisdom on Protecting Your Hṛdaya (Heart)

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the 164th edition of our Ayurvedic Wellness Newsletter!

our heart beats over 100,000 times a day, working tirelessly to circulate life throughout your body. But in modern times—stress, poor diet, emotional overload, and sedentary life—your heart is more burdened than ever.

Ayurveda sees the Hṛdaya (heart) not just as a blood-pumping organ, but as the seat of consciousness, emotions, circulation, and Ojas (vitality).

A disturbed heart affects not only the body but also the mind, spirit, and longevity.

Today, let’s understand Ayurvedic heart care the way the ancient texts describe it—holistic, preventive, and deeply healing.

The Ayurvedic View of the Heart (Hṛdaya)

According to Ayurveda:

  • The heart is the home of Ojas – the essence of immunity and long life

  • It is the root of Prana Vaha Srotas – the channels that govern respiration and circulation

  • It is influenced by Rasa & Rakta Dhatu – blood and plasma

  • It is deeply connected to the mind (Manas) and emotions

This means heart diseases are rarely just physical — they often begin with emotional imbalances, weak digestion, or improper lifestyle.

Signs of Hṛdaya Imbalance

  • Palpitations

  • Chest heaviness or tightness

  • Breathlessness on mild exertion

  • Anxiety, fear, emotional instability

  • Poor circulation, cold hands & feet

  • Fatigue, weakness, and low stamina

  • High blood pressure

  • Excess heat or burning sensation in chest

Why Heart Problems Occur (Ayurvedic Causes)

  • High Pitta: Anger, heated emotions, alcohol, spicy foods → causes inflammation

  • High Vata: Stress, irregular lifestyle, lack of sleep → causes palpitations & arrhythmia

  • High Kapha: Heavy diet, sedentary habits, obesity → causes blockages & sluggish circulation

  • Weak Agni: Poor digestion leads to Ama, causing toxic buildup in arteries

  • Emotional trauma: Sudden shock or grief affects the Hṛdaya directly
