Understanding Stress Through Ayurveda – The Silent Aggravator
Dear Readers,
Stress has become one of the most common health challenges in today’s fast-paced world. Ayurveda describes stress not as a disease in itself, but as a disturbance of manas (mind) and doshas that over time manifest as physical and psychological ailments.
What Happens in the Body During Stress?
Vata aggravation: Stress disturbs Prana Vayu, causing restlessness, insomnia, and anxiety.
Pitta imbalance: Leads to irritability, anger, headaches, and acidity.
Kapha imbalance: Results in lethargy, emotional eating, and depression-like states.
Over time, stress weakens ojas (vital energy), lowering immunity and opening doors to chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, skin problems, and even spine disorders.
Ayurvedic Approaches to Managing Stress
Daily Routine (Dinacharya):
Wake up early before sunrise (Brahma Muhurta).
Practice Abhyanga (oil massage) with sesame or coconut oil.
Eat freshly cooked, light, and nourishing meals.
Mind-Body Practices:
Pranayama – especially Anulom Vilom and Bhramari for calming the nervous system.
Meditation – even 10 minutes daily balances the mind.
Yoga asanas – Shavasana, Balasana, and Viparita Karani help reduce stress hormones.
Herbal Support:
Ashwagandha – Adaptogen that strengthens the nervous system.
Brahmi – Enhances memory, concentration, and calmness.
Jatamansi – Relieves anxiety and improves sleep.
Simple Lifestyle Tips
Avoid excessive screen time, especially before sleep.
Reduce stimulants like coffee and junk food.
Spend time in nature daily.
Build strong relationships – Ayurveda emphasizes Satvavajaya Chikitsa (mind therapy through positive thoughts and habits).
Closing Thought
Ayurveda reminds us that stress is not just about the mind – it is the root disturbance that seeps into every system of the body. By adopting Ayurvedic wisdom, we can transform stress into strength, and chaos into calm.
“Balance the mind, and the body follows naturally.”
Stay balanced. Stay radiant.
With warmth and care,
