Lightening the Weight of Kapha

Dear Reader,

We’ve journeyed through Vata and Pitta in our last editions. Now, let’s complete the circle with the third dosha — Kapha.

Kapha is a blend of earth and water. It provides strength, stability, lubrication, growth, and immunity. When in balance, Kapha makes us calm, compassionate, resilient, and strong. But when aggravated, it manifests as:

Lethargy, heaviness, or oversleeping
Weight gain, water retention, or slow metabolism
Respiratory congestion, cough, colds, or sinusitis
Emotional attachment, possessiveness, or depression
Oily skin, sluggish digestion, or loss of appetite

Kapha imbalance is aggravated by excess sweet and oily foods, lack of exercise, daytime sleeping, and over-attachment to comfort zones.

The remedy? Lightness, activity, and stimulation.

Vardhan’s Tip of the Week

  • Favor light, warm, and dry foods like barley, millet, ginger, and legumes.

  • Avoid heavy, cold, oily, and sweet foods.

  • Wake up early, ideally before sunrise.

  • Keep the body moving — daily exercise, brisk walking, or yoga is essential.

  • Use warming spices like pepper, turmeric, and cinnamon to ignite digestion.

Dr. Vardhan Says

"Kapha loves comfort — but too much comfort dulls life. To balance Kapha, challenge yourself: move more, eat lighter, and breathe deeper. The moment you bring lightness, your body and mind will bloom like a lotus rising above still waters."

With strength and resilience,
