Women’s Bone Health – Ayurveda for Strength & Stability

Dear Readers,

Bone health is one of the most neglected aspects of women’s wellness. From puberty to pregnancy to menopause, a woman’s body undergoes constant hormonal shifts, which can weaken asthi dhatu (bone tissue). Ayurveda places special emphasis on nourishing bones through diet, lifestyle, and rasayana (rejuvenation) therapies.

Ayurvedic View on Bone Health

  • Asthi Dhatu (bone tissue) is nourished by meda dhatu (fat tissue). Poor metabolism or weak digestion (Agni) leads to weaker bones.

  • Vata aggravation causes dryness, brittle bones, and osteoporosis (especially post-menopause).

  • Pitta imbalance can cause inflammation of joints.

  • Kapha imbalance leads to stiffness and heaviness.

Natural Ways to Strengthen Bones

  • Diet: Include sesame seeds, ragi, almonds, ghee, milk, and green leafy vegetables.

  • Sunlight: Morning sunlight for natural Vitamin D absorption.

  • Herbs:

    • Asthisamharaka (Cissus quadrangularis) – strengthens bones.

    • Shatavari – balances hormones.

    • Ashwagandha – improves bone density.

    • Arjuna – supports calcium absorption.

  • Yoga for Bones: Trikonasana, Tadasana, and Setu Bandhasana for strength and stability.

Vardhan’s Tip of the Week

Sesame Milk Tonic for Strong Bones:

  • Warm 1 cup of milk.

  • Add 1 tsp powdered black sesame seeds + ½ tsp ghee + pinch of cardamom.

  • Drink at night before bed.
Excellent for women post-40 to maintain bone density and reduce joint pain.

Dr. Vardhan Says

Strong bones are built not just with calcium tablets but with balance—of Agni, hormones, diet, and lifestyle. Ayurveda offers women lifelong support for their skeletal health. Care for your bones today, and they will carry you gracefully for decades to come.

With strength and steadiness,
